Maps To The Stars
David Cronenberg’s Maps To The Stars presents a tragedy of corruption and inbreeding in high places, in this case the homes of Hollywood’s B-list. When cycles of abuse collide, incipient violence erupts and death steps in to clean up the entangling mess. A link isn’t entirely clear between Julianne Moore’s desire to become her incinerated mother and Mia Wasikowska’s near incineration of her own parents before the film begins. Were they all once in the same burning house? The sins of the parents are visited upon the children who, haunted by ghosts, demons or figments of a psychosis inherited from the unholy union that birthed them, appear to be willing recipients. |
